HONGYU CHEN, baritone, is a renowned baritone from Inner Mongolia, who completed his PhD at the Arts University of Belgrade under the guidance of Nikola Mijailovic.
In 2017, he earned a Konzertexamen(Doctorate) with distinction from the University of Music Saar under Eva Randová’s tutelage. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree from the Mannheim Opera School, where he studied under Rudolf Piernay, and completed a postgraduate program at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest with Eva Marton.
He is currently studying with the celebrated soprano KrassimiraStoyanova.
Hongyu is a multiple award-winner in international competitions, including victories at the 55th International Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition, the Johannes Brahms Competition (Austria), the Ada Sari Competition (Poland), the József Simándy Competition (Hungary), the Imrich Godin Competition (Slovakia), UPMCF (France), the J.E.J. ReszkowCompetition (Poland), the Romana Vaccaro Competition (Germany), the Città di Alcamo Competition (Italy), and the Chamber Opera Schloss Rheinsberg (Germany).
His performance credits include prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Frankfurt Opera, the Bayreuth Festival (Haus Wahnfried), the Tyrolean Festival, the Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole, NationaltheaterWeimar, the National Theater Belgrade, and the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest.
His extensive concert engagements span Europe and Asia, leading to collaborations with renowned orchestras such as the German State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate, the Brandenburg State Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic, the Orchester National de Lorraine, and eminent conductors like Christian Thielemann, Helmut Rilling, Gustav Kuhn, and Gyüdi Sándor.
In the academic field, Hongyu is currently a professor of voice at Inner Mongolia Arts University in China, having previously held a lecturer position at Szeged University in Hungary from 2019 to 2023. He is also a sought-after visiting professor, frequently conducting masterclasses across China and Europe.
